6 Reasons to Share the Gospel: God

When we share the gospel with others, we are not simply doing it for the benefit of others, or even our own benefit. The mere act of sharing the gospel is an act of obedience to the God we serve, because He commands it. All we do, is done for the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31)

In this third installment in a series on the reasons to share the gospel, we will look at the reasons related to God and His kingdom.

  1. God’s name is elevated: In telling others about the gospel, we point others to Him and His name is raised up as the only name by which we can be saved. In the gospel message, He is not one god among many. We declare Christ as the King of kings, and Lord of lords. While others may claim to follow other gods, or themselves, none compare to the one true God. (Acts 4:12, Revelation 19:16, Psalm 136:3, Deuteronomy 4:7)
  2. We point others to the cross of Christ: It is not our own wisdom, nor the outward signs of baptism, but the message of the Christ and His atoning sacrifice on the cross that is central. (1 Corinthians 1:17-18, Galatians 5:11, Galatians 6:14)
  3. God calls a people to Himself: A good example is when Philip the Evangelist is sent to the Ethiopian Eunuch in Acts 8. The Ethiopian was reading Isaiah and asked who he was talking about, and Philip began there and told him the good news of Jesus. The eunuch’s response was to believe and be baptized. (Acts 8:26-40, John 12:32, Acts 9:15, Matthew 11:28)
  4. God grows His people: While we are used by God to plant a seed, or water the faith of another, God is glorified in that He makes their faith grow, He draws them to Himself, so His name is glorified. (1 Corinthians 3:5-9, John 6:44)
  5. God kingdom increases: God grows His kingdom both through those who increase their faith and faithfulness and through those who come new to faith. All involved are added to, and increased in knowledge, understanding, and maturity in the kingdom. (Acts 2:41, Psalm 51:13, 2 Peter 3:18)
  6. God is honored: When we tell others about what God has done, instead of our own deeds, God is honored. When we proclaim His truth, rather than our own opinions and when we put forth His Word, tell of His grace, His justice, and His mercy for our salvation, rather than looking to our own works to save, then God is honored. (Colossians 1:15-20, Philippians 2:9, Ephesians 2:8-9, Isaiah 29:13, I Samuel 2:30)

Now think of all the reasons not to share the gospel. They seem petty, or can easily be overcome with training and experience.
